Hi
My name is Charli Wiggill and I live in Durban, South Africa. I am the Head of High School at Curro Heritage House and have created this blog in support of innovative pupils and teachers who are passionate about education and would like a forum where they can learn about developments in Web 2.0 tools whilst posting comments and helping others.
The technology available today is truly mind-boggling and the pace at which it is being re-invented even more so. Many teachers feel out of their depth, some even threatened, by this whirlwind of technospeak that dazzles cyberspace. It challenges our tried-and-tested methods for our pupils' headspace and leaves many of us at a loss. Rather than seeing this fast-paced virtual world as the demise of values-based education, we should climb aboard and begin to experience this plethora of really useful tools to develop the skills of those in our care.
Future generations need to juggle these tools confidently in an ever changing world - for us in 2011 to be teaching in Dickensian-styled classrooms is a monumental travesty! Goodness; even postal workers have adapted their procedures and methodologies to cope with modern-day demands. Should we not then be leaders in this area plotting the way forward? All in good time... let us use this blog to acquaint ourselves with the training steps required to go on to much greater things.
